March 18, pickup soccer for kids + exhibition game at America's Stadium, the Rose Bowl!

This is gonna be awesome!

RSVP to join the informal pickup jamboree at the Rose Bowl Stadium (inside the actual stadium) on March 18.

What's the occasion? This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Region 13, and the start of the 50th season of girls' soccer in Pasadena. To celebrate, the Rose Bowl Foundation is letting us use America's Stadium for a special exhibition game, organized by our Sisterhood of Soccer. Kickoff at 6:15 pm. Before that, girls and boys from Region 13 are invited to take the field to play informal games, similar to how we do in Winter Stars. Meet at 4:30 at the Brandi Chastain statue, south of the stadium. Stand next to some friends you want to play with, and then we'll go into the stadium! Bring a picnic dinner and a warm coat.

Winter wrap

Parents, please answer the survey about Winter 2022 programs. That's Winter Stars, VIP, Grad Series, EXTRA, and All-Stars.

What's next

The Fall League, the main event, will be here before you know it.
May-June: register children and apply to volunteer
July - August: get trained to coach and referee
August: teams formed
September: soccer!

The Bill Owen Spring Classic is April 16-17 (Easter weekend), at the Rose Bowl (though not inside the stadium). Coaches, get a team together and apply. https://ayso13.org/tournament

To do

All coaches and referees need LiveScan fingerprinting. As of January 1, 2022 every volunteer in California who interacts with children must be fingerprinted. Just come to the Region 13 clubhouse on Wednesdays in March sometime between 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Bring an ID, and it takes about 5 minutes. Please RSVP, so the company knows enough people will be there to justify sending their people out.

AYSO Expo (a lot of in-person training) comes to San Diego on March 24-27. This is the place to network with other regions' board members and volunteers. Region 13 will reimburse registration and lodging. https://www.aysoexpo.org/s-1-10-11-socal/

Volunteer training has a new platform, with new and interesting classes on everything from dispute resolution to social-emotional learning. Find it at https://ayso13.org/classes.

Dear <<First Name>>,

Spring is a quiet-ish season for soccer. If you're looking for activities, consider basketball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, martial arts, or pickleball.

While you're doing that, volunteers are getting ready AYSO is about more than just the game. It's about building connections between people, and all of us -- players, parents, volunteers -- growing in the process.

The theme for 2022 is, "Be the change you want to see in the world." You are invited to imagine how Pasadena, Altadena, and La Cañada could be even better for families, and then help make some of those changes happen. One of those changes could be the Region 13 web site, which we know has room to improve. If you're good at copywriting, communication, computers, or design, and want to make a small part of the world just a little bit better, please tell me!

See you on the field,

Taj Chiu
Regional Commissioner (Volunteer) and Soccer Mom
