Take Action Now is a biweekly call from the Hanover Democratic Committee

for grassroots action to move our country forward during these exciting times.

Please join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.

Thank Joe Biden

The past month has been an especially difficult one for Democrats. Trump’s lead in polls, the Supreme Court decision that gives him immunity, the dismissal of the Florida documents case, and questions about Biden’s candidacy all created the feeling that the deck is stacked against us. Now, President Biden has bowed out of the race.

The first thing we should do is to thank Joe Biden for being such a decent person and great president! His legacy is inspiring.

The uncertainty about the ticket going forward is bound to create jitters. The stakes are too high, though, to give in to anxiety or despair. Trump’s incitement of violence, capitulation to Putin, and increasing authoritarianism are reasons to dig deeply and renew the fight. It is clear that it is up to us, the voters, to hold him to account.

As proud, hard working Democrats, we know candidates don’t elect themselves. It takes money, organizers, and especially volunteers to persuade anxious or reluctant voters to turn out. We owe every Democratic candidate, up and down the ballot, our commitment to work as hard as we can to keep the White House and Senate and take control of the House of Representatives. As the popular meme says, whatever you imagine you would have done in Germany in 1938, you should be doing it now.

Here are opportunities to volunteer to phone bank and canvass for our great candidates. This is a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) initiative. You will be asked to call on voters who likely favor our candidates, but who may need voting information and encouragement.

Help Leslie

Leslie Mehta, Democratic candidate for Congress in CD1, is running a spirited campaign and has a special ask. In addition to the volunteers (see above) she needs help in raising $30,000 to fund a poll of voters in the district. CD1 now includes parts of Henrico and Chesterfield Counties, making it a more friendly Democratic district and if she can show through the poll that her candidacy is viable, she will unlock other funding sources. Let’s help Leslie fund the poll.
