Take Action Now is a biweekly call from the Hanover Democratic Committee

for grassroots action to move our country forward during these exciting times.

Please join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.

Don’t we have an exciting Democratic ticket? Let’s channel this enthusiasm to help move our candidates across the finish line.

The Coordinated Campaign (Virginia presidential-senate-congressional) will have ongoing voter outreach opportunities through Election Day on November 5. Every Tuesday evening, phone banks in Ashland run from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to call Hanover voters and tell them about our candidates. Sign up here.

The second of two postcard writing parties organized by June Bohrer to tell Hanover voters about our Presidential, U.S. Senate, and Congressional candidates (both CD-01 and CD-05) will be on August 10. You can come to write (bring your pen collection!) or you can pick up:

Advocate for the School Board

Current Mechanicville District School Board representative, John Redd, is resigning because he is moving out of the district. At the Board of Supervisors meeting on July 24 six people were nominated. More info is here: https://www.hanovercounty.gov/1358/Mechanicsville-School-Board-Appointment.

Please contact your Board of Supervisor member and advocate for any of the following: Sterling Daniel, Sarah Gragnani-Butler, J. Chris Stanley, Dr. Deborah P. Wickham. Please advocate AGAINST the two Hanover Republican Committee and Hanover Patriots-backed candidates: Ryan Martin and Jody McMaster, who appear to favor book banning and oppose DEI initiatives as well as inclusion and accommodation of LGBTQ students. Martin also currently serves on the Pamunkey Library System Board of Trustees where he has voiced support for censorship and for de-funding our public libraries.

The Board of Supervisors will vote on the appointment at their meeting on Wednesday, August. 28th at 2pm. The new appointee will start on October 1, 2024 and serve through June 30, 2026.

Become a voting ambassador

Voter registration and early voting are critical to winning elections. One way to help Kamala is to make sure that all your friends and family are registered and have updated their voting information. This is especially true for young first time voters, who can register if they will have turned 18 by November 5.

Also, encourage family and friends to vote early, so nothing interferes with them making their voice heard. Make sure college students and those who will be traveling get an absentee ballot. Print out this voting schedule and put it on your fridge! Every vote matters.

Friday, Sept. 20: Early and absentee voting starts (Wickham Building: 7497 County Complex Road; Hanover VA 23069)

Tuesday, Oct. 15: Last day for voter registration. Voters may register after this date at the Hanover registrar's office or on Election Day at their regular polling place through Election Day, and vote using a provisional ballot.

Friday, Oct. 25: 5 p.m. deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you.

Saturday, Oct. 26: First early voting Saturday

Saturday, Nov. 2: Last day of early voting

Tuesday, Nov. 5: Election Day
