Organizing for victory at our August meeting
|
We will be starting to pick up our organizing for victory efforts for this fall at the August meeting of the Hanover Democratic Committee. We’ll meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 10 at Around the Table, 155 Junction Drive in Ashland. We had an outstanding turnout in July and now is the time to start pressing out efforts to regain the statewide offices and win our local General Assembly races.
Our Coordinated Campaign organizer, Max Rydell, will be there. House of Delegates candidates Scott Konopasek (HD-59) and Andrew Ward (HD-60) will also be coming to give an update and receive our donation checks. And, our special guest speakers will be all four of the Ashland Town Council candidates. We also will hear from Caitlin Ferrell, our intern for the 2024-2025 school year, since she is going to college.

HDC reorganization is coming later this year
|
Heads up—reorganization is coming. Every two years, all local Democratic committees in Virginia reorganize according to the state party plan. This will happen for the Hanover Democratic Committee in December 2025 for the 2026-2027 term.
All members must reapply for membership and pay dues anew, and new elections will be held for officer positions. You can always join via our website and follow the dues instructions after you fill out the application info. You also can go directly to the dues page. Yes, you will need to re-up even if you are a current member although there is no need to take action at this time.
For the time being, membership is still open for the 2024-2025 term and anyone who joins may pay half price dues ($20 per person). Just send in that amount after you fill out the form on the website.
Starting in October, anyone who joins will pay full dues and will be counted toward the 2026-2027 term. Stay tuned for notifications about our reorganization meeting. For questions and answers, contact Wendy Brooks, vice chair for membership, at wendybrooks82@comcast.net.

Opportunities to support our candidates
|
There are numerous opportunities to show support for our candidates. On Saturday, Aug. 9, join Andrew Ward, our candidate for the 60th House District, along with Abigail Spanberger and Jessica Anderson at a meet and greet in New Kent, starting at 5:45 p.m. RSVP here. In the 59th District, Scott Konopasek is our candidate for the House of Delegates. He’s tired of being represented by a status quo, MAGA Republican who only looks out for himself. Scott's campaign is launching a listening tour of every precinct in the district because Scott believes that being a good neighbor means knowing and talking to your neighbors. He needs you to host a meeting for him in your precinct and invite your neighbors and friends. If you can't host a meeting, you can help in other ways with digital and sign campaigns. Email margie@scottk4va.com and donate at www.ScottK4VA.com and his Facebook profile. Join Hanover Democrats for a fundraiser for Jay Jones for Attorney General from 2-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 14. More info here. Max Rydell is the Hanover organizer for the statewide coordinated campaign (Abigail Spanberger- Ghazala Hashmi-Jay Jones). Direct questions or requests for more information to him at mrydell@opvavictory.org.

Democratic signs change minds
|
We have a number of Democratic signs available that can be repurposed and used often. These signs reflect issues and our principles, not any individual candidate. Contact Mike Brooks at syntec@comcast.net or come to our August meeting at 4 p.m. on Sunday the 10th.

It's frustrating to read the headlines and watch our country go in the wrong direction. But there is no reason for a feeling of helplessness. There are a lot of things we can do to be seen and heard, and lay the groundwork for our future gains.

Postcard signing time again
|
It is postcard time again. We are following up on last year’s successful postcard drive targeting “leaning Dems.” We will be writing postcards for the Abigail Spanberger ticket and our two candidates for the House of Delegates — Scott Konopasek in the 59th district and Andrew Ward in the 60th.
You can pick up postcards, addresses and scripts at our regular meeting on August 10 or join us at the Mechanicsville Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 or at the Atlee Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20. We have 4,000 cards and we want every one filled out and distributed to our target voters.

Hanover Democratic Women: The August Hanover Democratic Women's Coffee Caucus will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Atlee Library. All Democratic Women are welcome. And this time, we are happy to welcome all Hanover Democratic Men to join us as we move into our last months before the 2025 elections. Andrew Ward, our House of Delegates candidate for HD 60, will be our special guest. Please come. RSVPs are desired.
The Atlee Public Library is at 9212 Rutlandshire Drive, Mechanicsville, near the intersection of Atlee Road and U.S. 301.
All Democratic and like-minded women are invited to our Hanover Democratic Women's Coffees which are for bringing together Democratic women from all parts of Hanover (and sometimes beyond) for energizing fellowship and for forming strong relationships to help elect Democratic candidates and promote our Democratic ideals locally and nationally. We meet monthly at the homes of different volunteering hostesses and in different parts of the county. We have no formal memberships or dues. Come for great fellowship. We look forward to seeing you. For more information, please contact Diane Neergaard at 804-304-1951 or dianeandallen1@gmail.com.
