The Bio Blitz is Upon Us! |
Following the second-lowest overwintering numbers on record, your participation in the Monarch Bio Blitz matters now more than ever. The 2024 International Monarch Monitoring Bio Blitz begins this week: July 26 – August 4, 2024! We hope you'll contribute to this essential tracking effort by reporting sightings of monarch adults, eggs and larvae, and Milkweed in your area. Monarchs and milkweed continue to be impacted by climate change, and the data you collect will make a real-world difference in the way we prioritize areas across the state for monarch support strategies. The Bio Blitz gives us a real-time snapshot of monarch activity across the continent, as well as a look at their current food supply. Ready to do your part? Keep an eye on our social channels in the coming days, and visit the link below to learn more.

Holy Shirt, Check This Out! 👀🚨 |
Eager to show your support for pollinators? Don’t miss your chance to purchase this cool and comfy tee, designed by Oklahoma Monarch Society President Rick Sinnett, and available through Oscillator Press of Norman! Proceeds support our work to save the monarchs, and shirts are available for preorder for a limited time: now through this Sunday, 7/28. We aren't sure if or when they'll become available again, and encourage you to get yours before they're gone.

Summer of Love and the Bonus Generation |
Are you feeling blue because your spring milkweed got skipped this year? Well cheer up, because Oklahoma is about to get a lot more orange (don't worry, Sooner fans, not that kind)! While many of us know to expect an influx of migrating monarchs as the calendar changes from September to October, Oklahoma and Texas play host to a special monarch phenomenon that Dr. Chip Taylor, founder of Monarch Watch has dubbed the “Mid-Summer Migration.” Reproductively active monarchs will begin arriving in the coming weeks to deposit an extra generation that will eventually join their southbound buddies to Mexico. So watch that milkweed and report what you see.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and out at last weekend's Pollinator Party! Our volunteer team greatly enjoyed the opportunity to meet the monarch heroes of Tulsa and was so encouraged by the incredible things you're doing for pollinators in Oklahoma. Big thanks and endless gratitude to our friends at The Pump Bar, Duck Creek Farms, Oklahoma Native Plant Network, and Oklahoma Plant Society for joining in on the festivities! We hope to see you again soon. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Okies For Monarchs events page for the latest happenings in your area. Explore more in the section below.
