Take Action Now is a biweekly call from the Hanover Democratic Committee

for grassroots action to move our country forward during these exciting times.

Please join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.

Go on strike

The Women’s March is planning a nationwide strike and day of protest on June 24, the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. There will be a protest at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. and at City Hall in Richmond on that date.

Also, supporters are encouraged to strike that day in protest. As the Women’s March says, “No spending, No work, No school On the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, girls, women, and allies go on strike. Participants do not go to work, do not go to school, and/or do not spend even 1 penny. As our privacy, body autonomy, healthcare, and travel rights are being removed, we remove ourselves for 1 day en masse. We stand together for all Americans to show that the nation needs us."

Help at the polls

We need volunteers to work as poll greeters at the Hanover Democratic Committee's Primary Election Day booths, on Tuesday, June 18th. Shifts are for two hours each, starting at 6am and going until 7pm*. Volunteers may serve at any polling place they wish.

*District Chairs will set up the booths prior to the first shift at 6am. The closing shift volunteers will help with break down.

Don’t forget to vote in the Congressional primary

Early Voting for the June 18th Democratic Congressional Primary started Friday, May 3rd and continues through Saturday, June 15th.

If you're in CD-01, you'll choose between Herb Jones & Leslie Mehta.

If you're in CD-05 (6 precincts in western Hanover), you'll choose among Paul Riley, Gloria Tinsley Witt and Gary Terry.

Early Voting starts May 3rd and ends June 15th. The hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday. There are two Early Voting Saturdays:
- Saturday, June 8, 2024. (9:00am to 5:00pm)
- Saturday, June 15, 2024 (9:00am to 5:00pm)
The Early Voting polling place in Hanover is at the Wickham Building: 7497 County Complex Rd. Hanover, VA 23069
The deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration is May 28, 2024 (Voters may register after this date, through Election Day, and vote using a provisional ballot).
The deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you is June 7, 2024. Your request must be received by your local voter registration office by 5:00 p.m.
