March 8th Monthly Meeting

Our February monthly meeting was a big success! Our guest speakers were Hanover NAACP President, Pat Hunter-Jordan and also Jackson Miller with Virginians For Fair Elections. Please check out their website and get involved!
The Next HDC General Meeting is in just one week, on Sunday, March 8th. As usual, it’s at 4pm at The Gathering Place at RVA Around the Table at 155 Junction Drive in Ashland. Please come! Our Chair Wendy Brooks will provide updates on the campaign, Virginians for Fair Elections. We will also hear from our Hanover Director of Elections and General Registrar Teri Smithson and Deputy Director of Elections Amee Wilson.
The HDC Bylaws have been updated and will be voted on at the March Meeting. Take a look at them here.
Yard signs in support of the Redistring Constitutional Amendment have arrived and will be available at the March meeting!

Vote YES, and get others to, in the Campaign for Fair Elections!

1st: VOTE YES to approve the Redistricting Constitutional Amendment to gain more Democratic seats in the U.S. House of Representatives to help offset Republican power grabs started in states with MAGA leadership like Texas.
Early Voting in this special election starts Friday, March 6th, and goes through Saturday, April 18th, with “Election Day” on Tuesday, April 21st. GET OUT AND VOTE YES TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY!!! Voting information for Hanover can be found here.
Early Voting is at the Wickham Building (7497 County Complex Road, Hanover, VA 23069). The hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Saturday voting will be April 11th and April 18th from 9am to 5pm. Tuesday April 21st is Election Day.All voting that day will be at your regular polling location. You can also vote by mail or bring your vote-by-mail ballot to the ballot drop off box at the Wickham Center. Curbside and absentee ballot drop off located at all polling locations, including the Early Voting Center at the Wickham Building. To check on your registration status and polling place, go here.
Reminders: April 10th is the last day to request an absentee ballot. Your application must be received by 5 pm April 14th by 5pm is the last to register to vote or make changes. After that, you can register when you go to vote and vote via a provisional ballot. April 18th is the last day to vote early in the Wickham building. April 20th at 2pm is the cut off for voting an emergency absentee ballot. (There will be no voting in the Wickham Building this day.) April 22 at 1pm, the Electoral Board will hold the canvass meeting to verify and confirm election results as well as any provisional ballots. April 24th at 12noon is the deadline to cure an absentee ballot.
2nd: Put up a yard sign in support of this campaign. Signs have arrived and will be available at the March meeting.
3rd: In addition, the HDC needs poll greeters at Early Voting to help support our voters and educate them about this campaign and our Committee. Sign up here–sign up for one shift, two shifts, three shifts–as many as you can!
4th: Donate individually wrapped pieces of candy to be given out at Early Voting. We will be collecting these at our March and April HDC general meetings.

Join us at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 23rd at the Hanover Tavern (13181 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover VA 23069) for our 17th Annual Blue Wave Bash fundraiser dinner. We will be hosting a moderated Q&A session with our honored guests, who we will be announcing soon! Get your tickets here!
We’ll also be having our first ever silent auction with many awesome things to bid on! Many auction items are coming in, such as spa and hair salon treatments, original art and pottery, landscaping services, a tarot card reading, and more, but we would love to have more. Ask your friends, offer your talent, or spice up the Blue Bash with a little shopping!
All proceeds go toward our operation costs, to our Democratic candidates, and to helping to increase the Democratic vote in Hanover and win elections. She is also looking for good ideas for community service projects our Committee members can participate in, so send those her way as well.

Our March Coffee, a morning Coffee this time, will be on Thursday, March 19, at the home of Natalie and Berith Hartwig at 119 Giddy Up Lane, Ashland, VA 23005. Berith and Natalie will welcome us at 10 am.
All Democratic and like-minded women are invited to our Hanover Democratic Women's Coffees which are for bringing together Democratic women from all parts of Hanover (and sometimes beyond) for energizing fellowship and for forming strong relationships to help elect Democratic candidates and promote our Democratic ideals locally and nationally. We meet monthly at the homes of different volunteering hostesses and in different parts of the county. We have no formal memberships or dues. Come for great fellowship.
