Advance Colorado President Michael Fields issued the following statement on the defeat of Proposition HH:
“The defeat of Proposition HH is good news for taxpayers, for TABOR and for the cause of providing significant, serious property tax relief to Coloradans. HH was a deceptive measure, crafted in secret, to give Coloradans a huge tax increase wrapped in tiny tax relief. Voters caught on, and tonight they clearly said they deserve better.
“The Governor and legislative leaders can address this crisis quickly and meaningfully in a special session. But if they choose to continue to duck this opportunity, then we are ready to lead with our Colorado Tax Rollback. This two-pronged tax solution resets property tax rates to 2022 levels and then caps future increases at 4 percent. The tax cap initiative has already qualified for next year’s ballot, having secured the required voter signatures in record time.
“Coloradans fundamentally believe that government should not grow faster than the growth of their own wages – a key message they sent tonight with the defeat of Proposition HH.”
