In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation establishing National Flag Day on June 14 to commemorate the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag.

It may not be a federal holiday, but it's certainly observed by plenty of Americans….” with parades, festivals, cook-outs and other community-centered events.
