Oklahoma Monarch Society Chair Creates a Pollinator Legacy |
Oklahoma Monarch Society Board Chair Dr. Patrick Bell has spent the past seven years transforming 130 acres of his family’s Johnston County land into a thriving pollinator habitat. After witnessing the decline of monarchs and other pollinators, Patrick partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Oklahoma Prescribed Burn Association to restore native grasses and wildflowers while creating critical habitat for pollinators and wildlife.
“It was a labor of love for 7 years,” said Patrick. “It took years of experimentation and research before I made lasting progress. The project wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s help.”
His journey is a powerful example of how land stewardship and collaboration can create lasting impacts for pollinators across Oklahoma.
