Please join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.

“Do Something”

In her speech at the Democratic National Convention Michelle Obama outlined the importance of this election and exhorted listeners to “Do Something.” Here is something important you can do.

We need YOU to help US greet voters at the Early Voting polling place in Hanover County! The Hanover Democratic Committee will have a booth each day of Early Voting which will take place Friday, September 20 to Saturday, November 2 at the Wickham Building (7497 County Complex Road), Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with two early voting Saturdays, on October 26th and November 2. You'll be greeting voters, letting them know about our candidates and our committee, and handing out sample ballots. Sign up here. Although not required, please try to complete this one-hour poll observing & greeting training first.

Vote early

Early voting boosts voter turnout because it eliminates the chance that an Election Day mishap will prevent you getting to the polls in time. Make your plan to register and to vote to make your voice heard:

Friday, Sept. 20: Early and absentee voting starts (Wickham Building: 7497 County Complex Road; Hanover VA 23069)

Tuesday, Oct. 15: Last day for voter registration. Voters may register after this date at the Hanover registrar's office or on Election Day at their regular polling place through Election Day, and vote using a provisional ballot.

Friday, Oct. 25: 5 p.m. deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you.

Saturday, Oct. 26: First early voting Saturday

Saturday, Nov. 2: Last day of early voting

Tuesday, Nov. 5: Election Day

Protect our vote

The Hanover Republican Committee (HRC), and MAGA Republicans across the state, are advocating to compel our Registrars’ Offices to hand count ballots. At the August 28th Hanover Board of Supervisors meeting, several of them, including the HRC Chair Jack Dyer and Hanover realator Woody Hogg, testified that the 2020 election had been stolen; spoke against absentee ballots, drop boxes, and voting machines; and in favor of a resolution they gave the Board of Supervisors to compel the use of hand-counted ballots across Virginia. Besides espousing conspiracy theories and spreading misinformation, ultimately they are insulting our hardworking county elections staffers and trying to lay the groundwork so that when Trump loses they can falsely claim that the election was stolen. This article in American Oversight explains the scope and purpose of this election denial movement and documents that hand-counting votes is more expensive and less accurate than machine counting.

Please contact our Hanover Electoral Board members and cc Hanover Registrar Teri Smithson and your Supervisor (see contact info below) and let them know that you do NOT support conspiracy theories or the requirement to hand count ballots. Tell them you trust our hardworking and professional election workers and Registrar, and that demands to hand count ballots is part of MAGA election denialism. This resolution should not be considered and the Hanover Republicans should not be permitted to disrupt and undermine our free & fair elections.
