Trump is trying to use the powers of the government to silence any political opposition, starting with media personalities and outlets that are critical of him. Apparently comedians are especially good at getting under his narcissistic thin skin. In the latest incident Disney-owned ABC abruptly suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live, after Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr delivered a mob-like threat that the network would face consequences if it did not comply with his wish to dismiss Kimmel.
This censorship is so egregious that even Republicans like Ted Cruz, Karl Rove, and Tucker Carlson have called it out as a violation of the First Amendment. Capitalists, like Disney executives, may not value democratic principles, but money speaks to them. Tell Disney that you are offended by their cowardly and greedy response to this government overreach and that you expect them to stand up for democracy and the First Amendment. Tell them you are joining with the throngs who are boycotting them (Disney, DisneyPlus, ESPN, HULU, ABC and its affiliates and advertisers) until they do. This boycott will be a sacrifice for many households, but hopefully it will be temporary. Experts tell us that snail-mail letters to Disney are more effective than emails, but a postcard to Mickey Mouse might be fun to write as well.
