Welcome from the Editor
November is the of month Thanksgiving. As we gather together with friends and family take a moment to reflect on all you have to be grateful for. Find one thing in your life that brings you joy, may it put a smile on your face.
November 11th is Veterans Day. Take this opportunity to offer your gratitude to a Veteran. Thank you to all our member Veterans for your sacrifice and service.
This month's issue features an article about the state of our Public School System, written by Amy Collins, Local Chapter Chair of Moms for Liberty. You will also find ways you can get involved to help shape the public education system and protect the minds of our children.
As the new Newsletter begins to take shape, I welcome ideas you may have on topics of great interest and importance. Maybe it's your favorite quote or Bible verse. Perhaps its an article that really spoke to you. Please reply to this email with your submissions and ideas.

THE CURRENT STATE OF OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM As the Grand Traverse County Chapter Chair of Moms for Liberty, my goal is to educate parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and community members on the issues within the public school system that are designed to denigrate traditional family values and turn our kids minds and hearts away from the Judeo-Christian values our country was founded on. Some may wonder what are parental rights and responsibilities? The bible gives us our responsibilities as parents and the law gives us the right to carry out those responsibilities as we choose. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”. The Supreme Court has ruled Glucksberg, 521 U.S. 702 (1997), that the Constitution, and specifically the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, protects the fundamental right of parents to direct the care, upbringing, and education of their children. The Michigan law: 380.10 states: “It is the natural, fundamental right of parents and legal guardians to determine and direct the care, teaching, and education of their children. The public schools of this state serve the needs of the pupils by cooperating with the pupil's parents and legal guardians to develop the pupil's intellectual capabilities and vocational skills in a safe and positive environment.” Why do we need to defend our parental rights? Pope John Paull II said it best; “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live”.How does the government and specifically public schools encroach on our rights as parents?Schools (K-12 and beyond) are currently being used to teach our children a new standard apart from the Judeo-Christian values that our nation was founded on. We have a new form of religion taught in public schools. It is in the form of Social Emotional Learning, which has been implemented in all schools at the elementary level. The premise of this education is to teach children empathy and respect in the form of affirming and accommodating all walks of life despite the values a family may hold. It revolves around the collective beliefs over the individual beliefs. We have literature that is forming our children’s minds in the guise of “reading broadly” or providing children with opportunities to look into another’s life or reflect on their own life. Except that these “windows and mirrors” that are provided are being focused on forming the mind with ideologies incongruent with the “laws of nature and nature’s God”. We are allowing our school libraries to be filled with books that form the minds of our children with the current ideology of the day instead of forming their minds with stories that show resolve, character, courage and triumph. The new resolve is displayed as destroying anything that is against you. The promoted character is one of accepting and accommodating all ideologies and no dissent. The new courage is coming out as LGBTQ+. The new triumph is a changed life or society. The school uses their social emotional learning standard as the justification for these materials. Have you heard of the graphic novel, Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe? It can be found right here in Traverse City school libraries. Illustrations in this book show the back side of 2 naked men laying on top of each other, fantasies about masturbation, and 2 people involved in oral sex with a strap-on prosthetic penis. The comic style book is about a girl who eventually decides she is asexual. When I questioned the school about the utility of this book for students and the learning objective used to rationalize such illustrations, I was told this book met social emotional learning objectives. Central High School administration put out an edition of a S’more Newsletter titled “Central High School Library: Supporting Students’ Social, Emotional and Cognitive Growth”. When did the library objective become social emotional learning? We are allowing our kids to be taught about sex by these institutions that disregard the natural law of gender. We have a sex-education advisory board that is influenced by Planned Parenthood, Title Track E3, the Unitarian Universalist Church OWL Program, Good Works Lab, and progressive educators. [Editors note: If you are unfamiliar with these organizations please check out the linked websites] We allow them to form our children’s view of sex while we are uncomfortable having those conversations ourselves. We are allowing them to start changing the wording of curriculum to be more gender neutral. At the high school level, we have wording in the sex-education curriculum which focuses on birth control measures for “people taking testosterone and people taking estrogen”. This gender-neutral language will continue to expand as the school progresses with a “comprehensive sex education” program. Did you know that Michigan law does not require schools to teach sex education? Did you know you can opt your child out of sex education? Michigan Legislature - Section 380.1507bWe are allowing our schools to provide physical and mental health care services on school campuses by collaborating with Northwest Michigan Health Services. This is believed to be a form of compassion by providing accessibility to health care for the underserved. Did you know the agreement allows for students as young as 14 to provide consent for mental health counseling service (12 visits or 4 consecutive months), sexually transmitted infection testing, diagnosing and treatment, substance abuse counseling and family planning services of education, pregnancy testing and prenatal care? Did you know “test results will be kept confidential, and we will do our best to ensure the billing and fee collection processes do not breach patient confidentiality”, per the agreement form? Why are we allowing vulnerable children to be taken advantage of by allowing no oversight of what type of care or counseling they are receiving? There is no transparency offered to parents of where these students will be referred for these services. Has the school or health department made agreements with any local clinics? Has the school even shown the need for these services? Or did it just seem like a good idea?https://www.tcaps.net/downloads/communications__marketing/tcaps_faq_page2.pdf I can continue to give examples, but I would implore readers to start looking for themselves into these things. Start looking at the assignments sent home with children. Start looking at the resources within the classrooms, school, library, social work offices. Start watching board meetings and become familiar with proficiency. Demand a plan for what they are doing to bring our proficiency levels for math and reading above 50% of students. Yes, 50% right here in TCAPS! That is where our children are underserved. Start opting your children out of curriculum that goes against your beliefs. Become familiar with books offered in the schools. Start requesting that your child not be permitted access to books that define the world differently than you believe. Start challenging the things that go against the “laws of nature and nature’s God”. Our children are in their formative years and we, parents and the community, need to stand up to the things that will bring our children up with values different from what we live. We, as a community, need to make sure more than 50% of our kids are at grade level standards for reading and math. We do not need to agree to a plan just because someone says that we need to have compassion, or the law allows. Just because a law permits something doesn’t mean we have to implement it. We need to ask questions. Parents, I encourage you to be the ones to train up your children in the way they should go. Help Protect Children and Public EducationSchool Board Positions: There is an amazing opportunity to get involved and influence decisions made in the TCAPS District. Coming up in December 2024 there will be 3 seat vacancies on the School Board. Currently there is one Republican on the board, she is outnumbered 6:1. While Beth is doing all she can to make a difference for our kids, she sure could some help. If we fill all three seats, we can flip the majority and make a real impact on the direction of our local public school learning climate. For more information email info@gtgop.org. Loyalty and unity have all but vanished. The power struggle in Michigan between the grassroots Patriots and the GOP is causing many casualties as good people are dropping out. The battle within the Patriotic movement is escalating as Patriots are eating Patriots. Is there any hope for freedom and our Constitutional Republic when we are fighting against one another? Our battle is first and foremost spiritual and then pragmatic. Biblical principles are the formula for success, whether people are Christian or not, the Truth Will Prevail! Non-Christians and Christians are both successful when Biblical principles are applied. Read more
