Take Action Now is a biweekly call from the Hanover Democratic Committee

for grassroots action to move our country forward during these exciting times.

Please join us in taking these simple actions on the local, state and national levels.

Vote

Virginians are lucky that we get to vote this year as an expression of our dislike of the Republican regimes in Richmond and in D.C. Early voting has been strong, which is usually a good sign for Democrats.

Let’s keep up the pace with early voting at the Wickham Building - 7497 County Complex Rd, Hanover, 23069. The hours are:

Monday - Friday hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Saturday, Oct 25 & Nov 1 hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Curbside Voting is available during these hours

Absentee Ballot drop box is available from Sept 19 - Nov 4 at 7PM

Register to vote, update your information, find your polling location, and check your voter registration here.

The deadline to register to vote, update registration or request an absentee ballot is October 24. Apply to receive an absentee mail in ballot here.

Be sure to check with the teens and college students to see if they have registered and requested a mail in ballot, if needed.

Protest

Every week we see more disturbing authoritarian behavior from MAGA.

We see images of children in Chicago being dragged from their beds and zip tied together on a sidewalk during a horrific, illegal ICE raid. We see troops in our cities. We see university, corporate, and public officials being pressured to bow to the party line, and see extrajudicial attacks on foreign boats.

It’s time to stand up and say, “No more. No kings for the U.S.”

Call every day

Republicans shut down the government because they refuse to fund subsidies for many lower income citizens on the Affordable Care Act. For many using the Affordable Care Act premiums will jump 50% meaning that many will no longer be able to afford their health insurance. It is unconscionable to throw people off of health care coverage while giving billionaires tax cuts.

Government shutdowns are particularly damaging to Virginia because so many in the federal work force live here. To add insult to injury Trump is making deeper cuts to the government during the shutdown and his continued tariffs are devastating our farmers and small business owners.

Treat the days of the shutdown like an Advent Calendar. Instead of opening a new window, everyday call our Congressmen Rob Wittman (202-225-4261 or 804-730-6595) and John McGuire (202-225-4711 or 434-791-2596) to remind them of the number of days of the shutdown. Tell them that Republican rule is devastating Virginia’s economy. Remember how our public pressure brought Jimmy Kimmel’s show back? Use that same pressure on our congressmen.

Get involved

It’s crunch time for the campaigns. The statewide polls look hopeful, but take nothing for granted. Spanberger needs Hashmi and Jones on the governing team and they need a Democratic majority in the House of Delegates.
