February 8th Monthly Meeting
|
We had a great first meeting of 2026 in January with our new Chair Wendy Brooks at the helm! The room was PACKED with over 100 people. We heard from some of our CD-01 candidates and from folks with New Virginia Majority about the National Popular Vote. Our February monthly meeting is fast approaching! Our guest speakers on February 8th will be Hanover NAACP President, Pat Hunter-Jordan and Jackson Miller with Virginians For Fair Elections. Please check out their website and get involved! As of now, the constitutional amendment concerning redistricting is set to be voted on by the public on April 21st. As usual, our monthly general meeting is at 4pm at The Gathering Place at RVA Around the Table at 155 Junction Drive in Ashland. Please come!
We will have "We The People Oppose Unchecked Federal Police Power" postcards to give out and be mailed to our Representatives at the meeting.

It was amazing to see a thousand people turned out on Wednesday to protest the proposed ICE Detention Center on Lakeridge Parkway. People came from all over Virginia to join in on our fight to keep ICE out of Hanover.
The Board of Supervisor Meeting began with a statement read by BOS Chair, Sean Davis, saying that the Board opposes the Federal Government purchase of the facility on Lakeridge Parkway saying that “A DHS facility at this property on Lakeridge Parkway is not consistent with the established land use for this business, residential and commerce area”.
Yesterday, after international pressure, the Canadian development company who owns the facility announced that they will not sell the property to DHS.
We won this battle, but the war goes on. We need to keep up the pressure on all our local, state, and federal representatives and let them know that we plan to fight any ICE facility they try to put in Hanover County.
Thank you to everyone who sent emails and made phone calls to our government officials and showed up in the freezing temperatures on Wednesday night! Congressman Rob Wittman, (202) 225-4261
