Hi, <<First Name>>!
Well, that was a speedy month 😂
It had me astral projecting to different era's.
That is, I was mentally there, but my body...definitely wasn't.
⭐️ Musician Pete Walsh sent me to the 1960's to create a poster design for Melbourne Fringe Festival talking about the evolution of music. (Did you know that 'Say A Little Prayer' by Aretha Franklin was actually written about wishing for a husband to come home safely from the Vietnam War?)
⭐️ Performer Ginger Tonic sent me to a 1970's style disco bar to create boudoir images. "Beware of pretty faces you find".
I'm curious to know where you're at, <<First Name>>. What were your wins from this month, and what are your obstacles toward your current goals? Hit reply and let me know.

Moulin Rogue, Cirque De Soleil, Aladdin, the 1940s. This shoot was a chameleon. An assortment of influences and styles kept morphing as Kaylah gave life to this character that Aislynn (MUA), Cameron (STYLING) and I (PHOTO) created.

Let me set the stage for your grand spectacle! Together, we'll whip up a poster and marketing extravaganza that'll make every eyeball pop! It's a harmonious blend of teamwork and passion, creating digital & print graphics that'll leave jaws on the floor. Featuring: Pete Walsh for Melbourne Fringe Festival

Can You Keep A Secret? I'm going to tell you one aspect of photography that I'm still working on 14 years later. |
When I visited Cambodia for a portrait workshop, I remember this being the main technique in a workshop that Doug taught us.
My awareness expanded. My eyes widened. I gasped at my lack of observation this whole time I'd been taking pictures.
Lamps, light poles, trees, unidentified flying objects. Somebody else's hand coming out of somebody else's head.
|
|
The secret is composition.
The art of arranging elements (by moving your own angle, body) to alter the frame to guide the viewer's eyes.
One essential aspect of composition is avoiding distracting elements like lamps or light poles positioned directly behind subjects' heads.
A subtle, yet perfect example, is Ginger directly next to these lamps.
Placing objects beside or behind a subject's head can lead to awkward visual tension. Its such a solid object that my eyes go the lamp, instead of her gorgeous face.

|
|
|
You can easily disrupt the harmony of the photograph, diverting attention away from the subject and diminishing the overall impact of the image.
Create balance and harmony.
A photographer should aim to use the environment to complement the subject, enhancing the narrative rather than detracting from it.
|
|
|
|
|
Perhaps this will make you more aware next time you're working on your own marketing material. You can take a look at photos you've taken of family and friends after a cocktail or brunch (pffff... in this economy?) and see if you achieved the same absurdity.
Shhhh.... you're welcome!

What makes your heart sparkle?:
The fact that I live in a day and age where, as a woman, I can run my own business doing something that I genuinely love with all my heart and soul. Having the freedom to live my life as the creative I am absolutely lights my soul on fire.

'Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you - figure out what you have to say' — Barbara Kingsolver
This quote was said by Barbara Kingsolver and was written in the book I am currently reading "Aligned and Unstoppable" by Cassie Mendoza-Jones. A lot of what is in this book speaks to my soul. This quote in particular resonates with where I am at in life right now - figuring out this new journey I have begun and recognising what I was put on this earth to do.

Hue are you?!:
This colour is called 'Sunglow'. This question was very difficult to answer because different colours make me feel in all different types of ways. I decided with yellow because I feel like it best reflects my personality - bright and bubbly.

Kodak Moment Of The Month:
On Saturday we spent our evening celebrating a close friend's 30th birthday. All of my friends were in the same place at the same time which hasn't happened in a long time. It was a very joyous occasion!

This weekly list has always been appealing to me for its super simple layout, and anything that doesn't get marked off moves to the next day.

When taking your next selfie (or photo of a client you've just done amazing makeup on), put your hand up in front of you.
Move in a circle until you like how soft & smooth the light is.
Put your face in the direction your hand was. Walah! Perfectly lit selfie tip from your local photographer (they don't call me it for nothin').
