Hi pal, It's been fascinating to watch equal and opposite reactions unfold in the labor market. On the one hand, among hourly workers, it’s being called, “The Great Resignation.” Alongside this, among white-collar workers, may be a nascent over-employment trend. The Wall Street Journal reports the phenomenon among some white-collar workers to take on more than one full-time remote job. Fed up with being exploited, they're choosing to be over-employed in the hopes of stepping off the hamster wheel and achieving financial freedom. I understand this completely; I'm just like these folks. I have one job running a bookkeeping agency, but I also have a job writing. Last year, I took on the full-time job of writing a whole fucking book. My wife runs not one but two companies, and I know that our future will include some sort of product business. As terrible as the pandemic has been, it's been remarkable to see how workers have awakened to realize they don’t have to accept the status quo. They also don’t realize that saying you want to work is a bizarre thing to say, borne of the borderline-religious way in which labor is considered a question of morality. While providing shelter and food for your family is a moral imperative, the simple act of working is not - labor in and of itself is not noble, nor should it be lionized as such. The pandemic put a giant spotlight on the way in which some companies see themselves as being 'owed' workers, versus having to court them and actually give them something in return for their labor.”
